LLNL physicists designing new laser systems and modeling laser performance now have a powerful new tool in their hands with the Virtual Beam Line++ (VBL++) code.
In this computer model, dislocations are shown moving through a lightweight aluminum-lithium alloy as it is strained. The model is used to design the composition of the alloy for use in lighter-weight jet turbine blades.
