Overview of the SciDAC Program

SciDAC is a five-year program to develop the Scientific Computing Software and Hardware Infrastructure needed to use terascale computers to advance its research programs in basic energy sciences, biological and environmental research fusion energy sciences, and high-energy and nuclear physics. This ambitious program was launched in FY 2001. More information about the program can be found at the DOE SciDAC home page.

CASC’s Participation in SciDAC

The Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is participating in six of the seven SciDAC Integrated Software Infrastructure Centers (ISICs). These centers are addressing several needs for terascale systems: new algorithms that scale to parallel systems having thousands of processors, new methodology for achieving portability and interoperability of complex high-performance scientific software packages, application performance tools and modeling, and effective tools for feature identification, data management, and visualization of petabyte-scale scientific data sets.
