Bill is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Colorado at Denver.
Bill's research interests include computational mathematics (multigrid methods and Fourier analysis), but are principally focused on mathematical modeling. His particular interest is in problems in biological sciences and medicine. For example, Bill is presently working on mathematical problems arising in the detection of prostate cancer, and on a model that simulates the evolution of one or more genetic traits.
Bill and Van have previously collaborated on another SIAM monograph, The DFT: an owner's manual for the discrete Fourier transform.
